GameSim Technologies, Inc. Wins Small Business Innovation Research Award from NASA

Orlando, FL – Orlando-based game and simulation software company, GameSim, has been selected to receive Phase I funding through the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. This funding will support the development of a “Virtual Team Training Engine,” an engineering framework that will be capable of constructing and executing virtual training scenarios for NASA mission staff. The framework also has the potential to enhance military or emergency responder training systems, and has broad implications for social and psychological research.

NASA’s SBIR awards are highly competitive research based programs that provide U.S. small businesses the opportunity to engage in cutting edge research, development and commercialization. The programs enable teams to explore technological potential while providing the incentive to profit from new commercial products and services. NASA’s Director of Space Technology, Michael Gazarik, said "NASA's partnerships with small businesses and universities through these programs brings space technologies to the marketplace, helping start-ups and small businesses create new jobs and grow our economy while meeting NASA's current and future mission needs.” Announcing the 2011 SBIR awards, Gazarik said, “We're excited to work with these new partners and look forward to seeing their technologies mature into commercially viable products."

Of the 1,878 qualified Phase I proposals submitted, 260 were chosen on technical merit, experience, qualifications, and commercial potential. “This product has the potential to improve training systems for a wide range of disciplines, and the project’s evaluation component will contribute to a growing body of research on computer training applications,” said GameSim Founder and President, Andrew Tosh. “We are thrilled to partner with NASA, a pioneer in technological innovation, on the development of this product.”
